Professional Portfolio

Interest Statement:

The courses I have completed, along with my previous internships have given me a good background in current environmental  issues, as well as an understanding of the challenges in implementing programs which make sustainable improvements.

I have had incredible opportunities over the past three years to learn about the environmental field through my past work for the City of Bellevue, the University of San Francisco, Genentech, and Greenpeace.

During my internship at Greenpeace, I worked as part of team to educate the public on the hazards of high polluting coal plants. I have learned a great deal about the harmful effects of pollution and poor air quality and I have developed a true passion for improving the quality of our air for everyone. While an intern at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center in Bellevue, WA, I was responsible for conducting water monitoring efforts, analyzing the water samples and evaluating the data for positive or negative trends.  I also took part in leading community outreach efforts by teaching nature club to elementary children on a weekly basis.  I was responsible for preparing the lesson plans, and delivering the material to the children.  As a part of my Environmental Justice course this semester, my class is leading a seminar on increasing a sustainable infrastructure on campus, which includes increasing composting on campus.  Lastly, in my internship role with Greenpeace, I was responsible for identifying organizations to perform air quality informational training, as well as updating many of our social media accounts, including the web site and writing for the national newsletter.
